Ceiling Tile Repair

Ceiling tile repair. It works best on hairline cracks but it s worth a try on wider cracks too. For tiles installed with adhesive use a putty knife paint scraper or old chisel to remove any adhesive residue from the furring strips or the original ceiling in the absence of furring strips. The suspended ceiling method uses ceiling tiles hung from a grid called furring.
After removing all damaged tiles unpack your replacement ceiling tiles. Place the tile onto its furring for adhesion of the two and use a staple gun to staple the tile onto the furring. Ceiling panels are a popular choice for repair replacement and practical option for light commercial spaces.
Using your thumb lightly smooth the damaged area before you paint it. A scratch on the face of the tile will leave a slightly ragged looking spot. The replacement tiles have two sides with an extended lip for stapling to the framework as well as a recessed groove for the lip of the tile next to it see first photo below.
Wash your hands thoroughly and dry them well. Fortunately our damaged ceiling tiles were in a corner of the basement used as a laundry room. However time and or water damage often leads to tiles sagging from the furring.
Repairing a ceiling tile does not mean it will be just like a brand new one. Panels absorb sound for a quiet space. When tiles are attached to furring apply ceiling tile adhesive on the tile s inner surface and the furring using a putty knife.
Pull out any nails or staples with a nail puller or pliers or drive them in flush with a hammer. Then spray on two to three light coats of good bye cracks. The furring supports the tiles and keeps them from succumbing to gravity and falling downward.
